The Blackburn Family

Edward "Eddie" Blackburn, a retired police detective and current hockey coach, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in 2019. He is now a survivor, and his story, along with that of his family, has been shared with members of the Siolas Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine. Eddie's oncologist at the time was Dr. Despina Siolas and his surgeon was Dr. Paresh Shah, who is now Chief Operating Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Eddie now raises funds to donate to scientific research to fight pancreatic cancer.

The Capalbo Family in memory of Maria Capalbo

Maria Capalbo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Acri, Italy, she immigrated to Brooklyn at age 10 and later raised five children with her husband, Attilio, in Staten Island. Maria was deeply committed to her family’s education and well-being, extending her love and support to her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
During her treatment for gastrointestinal cancer, Maria received compassionate care from Dr. Despina Siolas at Weill Cornell Medicine. In gratitude, her family requested that donations in her memory support the Siolas Lab’s cancer research. Her legacy continues to inspire our mission to advance cancer research and improve patient outcomes. Find more information and donate at: https://everloved.com/life-of/maria-capalbo/donate/https://www.bedellpizzo.com/obituaries/maria-capalbo. In lieu of flowers, help us carry on Maria's legacy by giving to Siolas Lab.
